đŸ Dog Business Is Serious Business đŸ
Besides pets being legit members of our family, and pet products influencing our entire home and lifestyle experience - the global pet care industry is serious in its own right - it isn't just growing - it's booming. Valued at over $260 billion in 2024, it's projected to surpass $640 billion by 2034, reflecting a 7.1% CAGR . In the U.S. alone, pet industry expenditures reached $152 billion in 2024, with projections hitting $157 billion in 2025
But beyond the numbers, pets have become integral to our daily lives. In 2024, 94 million U.S. households owned at least one pet, up from 82 million in 2023 . This deep bond has led to increased spending on pet care, with owners seeking products and services that match the quality and aesthetics of their own lifestyles.

đ° The Mindset of the Modern Entrepreneur
Here I share something I deeply believe: an idea doesnât need to look serious to be serious. Zippers. Mattresses. Puppy pads. Great businesses solve real problems - and thatâs always serious. The market doesnât reward appearances. It rewards value.
So many founders (especially students and early entrepreneurs) hesitate, asking: âBut is this a real business idea?â
Yes. If it solves a problem and creates value - it is. Full stop.

These same themes came up in a conversation I had recently with a group of Stanford University students who interviewed me about how environment shapes startup success - especially for founders launching ventures at the iconic Stanford Research Park, home to companies like Varian Associates, HP, Lockheed Martin, and SAP.

We talked about how our physical surroundings influence innovation. How even the objects we place around us - our mugs, our dog beds, our whiteboards - shape the way we think.
But we also went deeper.
The students asked me, âHow do you vibe check the room?â
Thatâs leadership. Thatâs the real environment.
Itâs not just desks and devices - itâs energy, culture, truth.
As a leader, donât avoid energy. Run toward it. Especially when somethingâs off.
Iâve had to outlive plenty of lies - rumors, jealousy, people too afraid to face their own potential. Let them plot. You stay planted. In truth.
Because culture isnât a slogan. Itâs built moment by moment.
And it starts with the tone you set:
â
Transparency
â
Accountability
â
Support

Fun
One of my first crushes once told me his dad said:
âAlways shine a light on something.
If itâs nothing, the light will show itâs just a shadow.
If itâs something, the light will help you see it more clearly.â
That stuck with me.
Because light - truth - changes everything.
Whether youâre building a high-growth startup, launching a lifestyle brand, or mentoring students through their first ventures⊠you must believe in the value of what youâre building â even when others donât.
Innovation doesnât always wear a suit.
Sometimes it wears fur and a crown. đŸđ
Sometimes itâs a QR code that helps restaurants fill cancelled reservations.
Sometimes itâs a beautifully designed potty pad.
But in every case, if you created it with care, clarity, and purpose - itâs serious business.
đŸ So 16 Paws isnât just changing your life, or your pets, or our own lives - we are innovating and upgrading the entire industry and inspiring the next generation of entrepreneurs and innovators on our way.
It really is about creating a better world for us and our pets. See you out there!
